Randolph (Randy) Frederick
Pausch, was an American professor of computer science and human-computer
interaction and design at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania. In September 2006, Randy learned that he had pancreatic cancer
and in August 2007 he was given a terminal diagnosis: "3 to 6 months of
good health left".
He gave an upbeat lecture entitled "The Last Lecture: Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams" on September 18, 2007 at Carnegie Mellon, which became a popular YouTube video. He then co-authored a book called The Last Lecture on the same theme, which became a New York Times best-seller. Randy died of complications from pancreatic cancer on July 25, 2008.

In his presentations, he
spoke of working hard, achieving your own dreams, overcoming obstacles, seizing
every moment… and at the end of his speech asked the following:
Did you figure out the head
fake? It’s not about how to achieve your dreams. It’s about how to lead your
life. If you lead your life the right way, God will take care of itself, the
dreams will come to you.
The lesson in this for me is
that I need to be connected to the source of who created me Trying to live my
life the way I see it, will not get me to where I need to be.
Here is one such person,
Nelson Mandela
